Mr. Rob Hannon

UCD Assistant Professor & Clinical Lecturer in Surgery
Mr Hannon is a Consultant General, Colorectal & Laparoscopic Surgeon. He is a medical graduate of University College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed Higher Surgical Training with subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery in Manchester in 2008. He has completed specialist fellowship training in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at Hope Hospital, Salford, and Advanced Pelvic Malignancy at the Christie Hospital Manchester.
Mr. Hannon returned to Ireland to practice as a General Colorectal & Laparoscopic Surgeon at Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry, Co. Down, in 2008. While there he Introduced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Programme (ERAS). He was deputy Chair of the Southern Area Colorectal Cancer Team and Head of Clinical Governance. He returned to practice in Dublin in 2012. He has been appointed UCD Assistant Clinical Professor & Clinical Lecturer in Surgery & Surgical Specialties, UCD School of Medicine.
Mr. Hannon’s public practice is based at St James’s Hospital. He practices privately at The Beacon Hospital, The Mater Private Hospital and Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny.
Mr. Hannon is part of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme at St. James’s Hospital and is a founding member of the Court of Examiners at the RCSI. His memberships include the IACP, ACPGBI, ESCP and ASGBI.
Mr. Hannon’s research interests include Clinical Governance Metrics and Enhanced Recovery after Surgery.
